We adults really don’t have to figure everything out. A mentor and a friend are a step away …fully equipped to encourage and empower us. Someone who has scoped the land before we get there. Are we postured to yield to another adult though? Life has enough challenges. I’m not trying to add to it because of pride. Man forget that. I’m willing to learn from anyone.
There are three types of relationships that I always keep near and dear to me:
1. Elder
2. Parental
3. Friend
An Elder is one who is significantly older who knows us on a non-biased level. They are seasoned and wise.
A Parent or Parental Figure gives us the space to be vulnerable. They know us well, as a son or daughter.
A Friend typically does life with us. They are around the same age who provide a common perspective on life.
All 3 must have permission to pour honestly. That is, through encouragement, correction, instruction, and pushing.
